Last night was very cold, the fans were running in the orchards overnight and it was 38F when we got up this morning, but it warmed up beautifully during the day and turned into an absolutely gorgeous day.
Looking at the news and papers it looked like a terrible day at home, I had an e-mail from sister this morning and she had a snow day today so I figured it would be a good chance to talk to her, so called and we had a good chat. I also had an e-mail from our daughter Kel who had a kind of snow day, the school wasn’t closed but the buses were cancelled so it was a pretty quiet day at school and she said she got lots done. Fortunately she doesn’t have far to go so the drive was okay. Sure don’t miss all that snow and freezing rain and we did our share of driving in it during our working days!
I went for a long walk around the park today, then this afternoon I went out shopping for a bit. I was just going to go out and get some cards but seeing how I was by myself I took the opportunity to check out a couple of clothing stores. I got a nice blouse at 60% off at one store and then went to Beall’s where I saw a few things I would have liked to try on but they were painting the change rooms so I gave up and left, maybe I will get back on Friday afternoon while John is touring the MCAS base.
When I came back John was busy polishing the aluminum propane tank again, it will be blinding in the sun soon!! This afternoon the GPS that he bought off E-Bay arrived so he spent some time getting it set up and seems to be pleased with it, this one is for bike riding etc. and also would be good for geocaching, which I would like to try sometime.
Our friend Margie had surgery on her shoulder yesterday so we just called to see how she was doing, she has been quite sick from the anaesthetic so is not feeling great but hopefully she will be feeling better tomorrow and improves each day. We wish you a speedy recovery Margie.
It is time to get dinner ready and then a quiet evening of reading and a bit of TV is planned. And so ends another great day in our life of retirement and we look forward to another great day tomorrow.

Today was supposed to be warmer but the forecasters were wrong, it was windy and quite cool with a high in the low 60’s which felt colder with the wind.
We went golfing and I had to put my jacket on after the first hole, that is a first for this year but the wind was just too cool to be only in a short sleeved top. My game was pretty bad, I did make a couple of really good putts and on the last hole I redeemed myself by having a birdie so I ended up happier than I had been. I don’t know what I am doing wrong but I just can’t seem to get a decent hit, hopefully this will change soon as I am getting quite frustrated!
We stopped at Wal Mart on the way home as John wanted to get a belt and then came back and hunkered down, it was too cool to sit outside even though the sun was on the patio.
We just saw on the news that a tornado has hit the Memphis area, how sad and such destruction, I am glad we aren’t in that area. So, even though the weather was on the cool side it was still a great day in our life of retirement and it sure beats the weather in most of Canada and other parts of the states.

Well, the wind picked up again during the night but fortunately it had died down by this morning and we woke up to a beautiful sunny morning, which continued all day with a high in the mid 60’s.
I did the cleaning today plus cleaned out the kitchen drawers and reorganized them, always something to do, it’s amazing how much junk can be collected! Every time I clean I try to do something extra so today was the drawers as well as cleaning the curtain tracks – it is amazing how much dust and dirt they can collect in a short period of time!!
Other than a bike ride for John and a walk for me it was a quiet but nonetheless a nice day. John got my computer backed up on the hard drive then I set up some of my banking spots etc. so if we lose use of our computers everything is on the external hard drive – I find this all so amazing but am glad to have it.
And so ends another great day in our life of retirement and we are looking forward to another great day tomorrow.

Today was another lazy, uneventful day. The wind it was a blowin and the sun it wasn’t shining so it seemed like a good indoor day. I called and cancelled our golf t-time as we figured with the direction the wind was coming from the golf course would be getting lots of dust from the desert and it doesn’t interest us to golf in the dust!
I spent the afternoon mapping a couple of routes home (we want to have a couple of alternatives) and a route for a summer trip we are planning, it takes time to do as I try to find RV parks and determine the driving distance from one place to the next and of course a lot of the parks will be in areas where we want to spend some time. Anyways, I have fun doing it but it is not cast in stone, just an idea for places to stay and things to see.
John found an external hard drive on the internet which was on sale at Best Buy so after ordering it, and being advised it was in stock here, he went and picked it up – the store price was $209 and the internet sale was $99, guess it always pays to check the internet first. He went and picked it up and then came back and got it set up while he watched the Super Bowl. Now we can back up both of our computers and if something should happen to them we can still use the hard drive as a computer as he has loaded Leopard onto it. My computer still has to be backed up so guess that will be this evening’s or tomorrow’s project.
The wind has finally died down a bit and it is clear out so hopefully tomorrow will be a nice day again, today I went out to the truck to get the Road Atlas and Trailer Life Directory for my project and that was my extent of being outside, totally unusual for here.
And so ends another great day in our life of retirement and we are looking forward to another nice day tomorrow.

Today was another gorgeous day in sunny Arizona, it was cold overnight with a low of 39F but it got up to the high 60’s this afternoon so it was very pleasant. John went for his bike ride and I went for a long walk this morning.
Today was another quiet day, this afternoon we went to Yuma Palms Mall so I could get some stamps and mail some stuff at Hallmark, then a stop at Best Buy (we kept our money in our pocket) and then on to Wal Mart. We decided that it was so nice we (John) would barbecue chicken wings for dinner so we made a stop at Wal Mart to get the wings. When we got home I did a couple of loads of wash and that was it for our day.
I talked to my mom and Nan today and am always happy after I talk to our family.
And so ends another great day in our life of retirement and we are looking forward to another nice day tomorrow.

Wow, February already, where does the time go! Today was a beautiful sunny day and it got up to about 70F, perfect.
This morning I did some cleaning and just generally puttzed around then this afternoon I got real lazy and laid down for a while, I didn’t nap but did a couple of crossword puzzles. When I got up I got things ready for dinner as Janet and Dave were coming, we did a roast leg of lamb which was real yummy, with potatoes done around the roast, green beans and a salad. Janet doesn’t eat lamb so we did a chicken breast and baked potato for her. They brought a blueberry pie for desert so it was a good meal with good company. Once I got everything ready I took my book outside and read for an hour or so until they got here.
And so ends another great day in our life of retirement and we are looking forward to another nice day tomorrow.

Boy, we must have been tired after our long day yesterday as neither of us woke up until 9:30 – talk about lazy!
Today was a quiet, cool day, it was sunny all day but the temperature never got over 60, oh well with the severe storm warning they are calling for in Ontario I am not going to complain about a cooler day here.
Janet and Dave are coming for dinner tomorrow night so John and I went out to get a few groceries. While in Fry’s I checked the steaks and they had T-bones for $3.99/lb so guess what we had for dinner tonight. I have a leg of lamb in the freezer and Dave likes lamb but never gets it as Janet doesn’t like it so we are doing the lamb for dinner tomorrow night and a chicken breast for Janet. Now John is hoping it won’t be too windy tomorrow as we are going to do the lamb on the barbecue.
As you can see it was a quiet but great day in our life of retirement and we are looking forward to another great day tomorrow.

Wednesday - January 30, 2008
Today was a wonderful day, the weather was cool but mainly sunny so a good day for walking around the zoo. Jeans, a t-shirt and my nylon wind breaker were perfect and kept me comfortable for the day.
The bus left our pick up spot right at 6:30 a.m., made one more stop at their downtown office to pick up a few more people and we were on our way. We stopped at El Centro for breakfast about 7:45 and were quickly on our way again. From there to San Diego was new territory for John and I and it was an interesting drive. We went through quite a high mountain pass with very large rocks, very barren looking! About the top of the pass the sky got very black and it looked like we were going to be in for a storm but fortunately that didn’t happen and it was sunny by the time we arrived in San Diego around 10 a.m.
Some of the people on the bus were doing a whale watching tour, some were doing Old Town and then there were 6 of us doing the zoo, fortunately we were the last ones to be dropped off so got to see the harbour, old town and downtown San Diego – it looks like a very interesting city.
The zoo was absolutely fabulous, among others I have been to the Detroit, Toronto and Sydney Australia zoos and I have to say San Diego is the nicest one and we couldn’t believe how clean it was.
The first thing we did was take the aerial ride across the park, what a great view and it let us off near the polar bears – they were fun to watch and the one had an absolutely huge bone he was gnawing on.
We saw the two year old panda sitting enjoying his lunch of bamboo, then next was his mother and 4 month old brother and it was a riot to watch them playing. They were rolling around with each other then the little guy would try to climb a tree and mom would haul him back down but he was very persistent with his efforts to climb the tree. One of the panda keepers said they had been playing for over an hour so we were fortunate to see them at play. We also saw a mother anteater, she was the largest one I have ever seen, and her baby was on her back. She was trying to shake the young one off and make him walk but he was holding on for dear life and having no part of being parted from mom, fun to watch them. Of course I enjoyed the koalas, they are so cute but can be very vicious.
Because of the incident at the Los Angeles zoo the tigers weren’t out, they are adding to the height of the wire around their area and until it is done they won’t be out – disappointing. We walked around most of the zoo then took a 35 minute bus tour to see what we missed, we sat on the top of a double decker so had a good view – and it was just nice to sit for a while! When we walked around the elephant area there was only one out but when we went by on the tour there were 4 and one of them was pulling at an object hanging from a large piece of wood, the driver said there was food in it and the elephant sure was reefing on it trying to get at the food – quite funny to watch.
By the time the tour was over we had about 20 minutes before we had to meet our bus so Janet & I wandered through a couple of shops while John and Dave went through the reptile house.
On the way home we stopped at Alpine for dinner, there were a number of places to eat so we decided on a barbecue restaurant that turned out to be good and very reasonable. There was another quick stop at El Centro on the way back and we were dropped off at our truck about 9 p.m. – weary but having enjoyed a really great day.
I still have to go through my pictures, as well as John’s, so will wait until tomorrow to post this and some pictures.

Today was another nice sunny day but a bit on the cool side, I had my vest on until about 1 p.m. when it warmed up enough to take it off.
There was a big crowd golfing today, our group as well as others, and we were about 40 minutes late teeing off, there were 44 golfers so a good turnout. When I got there a lady came up and said how glad she was to see me back etc. and I felt terrible as I didn’t remember her at all from last year. As it turns out they are from Langley B.C. and her husband remembered John right away, guess they have far better memories that we have. Anyways, it ended up that Karen and I were partners so had a good visit but my game was absolutely awful, my last two drives and putts saved me from total embarrassment. The only saving grace was that one of the fellows on our other half of the foursome was having as bad a day as I was so I didn’t feel totally like a fool. Thanks to Karen we ended up with a 30 so not totally shabby, John and his partner didn’t have a good day either so John and I headed out shortly after we got done as we knew there would be no prizes won in this family today!
I needed some buns so we did a quick stop at Wal Mart plus stopped for propane on the way home. When we got back I got things ready for tomorrow and John got the propane tank back on, did a bit of this and that then went for a bike ride. Johnny stopped for a little visit then after she left I did some vacuuming and called my mom.
We are looking forward to our visit to the San Diego zoo tomorrow although I AM NOT looking forward to being up at 5 a.m. - I am not a morning person! We don’t expect to be back much before 11 tomorrow night so I doubt I will be doing my blog tomorrow.

Here we are with another nice day behind us, the sun was shining and the temperature was nice so we enjoyed the day.
I did a load of wash, the laundry was a busy place but I ended up chatting with a couple from Oakville who just arrived yesterday so that helped pass the time.
I was in desperate need of a haircut so told John that I was going to go this afternoon to get it cut, when we first got here a woman recommended Rosie at Daniel’s Barbershop and Rosie does a good job so I have stuck with her, better the devil you know! Getting your hair cut on the road is always a game of chance, sometimes you luck out and other times you don’t so when I find someone who isn’t too bad I try to stay with them. Anyways, John wanted to get his ears lowered also so we both went to Daniels.
After our cuts we did a quick stop at Wal Mart and Albertson’s, then on home. I went for a walk around the park and then came back and sat outside for a while reading, until it got too cool to be comfortable.
John barbecued chicken breasts for dinner and they were delicious. The dishes are now done, the coffee ready to put on in the morning so I am doing this and then will resume reading my book when I am done. John is making our cuppa evening tea so I will enjoy that and my book.
I just had an e-mail from Jim and Linda, the couple we met in the fall in the Gaspe, and they are coming for a visit on Feb. 11th so we are looking forward to seeing them again.

Wow, it isn’t supposed to rain in Arizona but the rain started early last evening and it rained all night and most of today – wonder if it will make the wildflowers grow in the desert!
Today was another lazy day but this afternoon we did got out for some groceries, we went to Fry’s and Wal Mart and both were a zoo, guess the grocery stores here are the same as at home – Sunday is the worst day to shop!
On the way home the sky was really pretty and just before sunset the sun actually came out and we saw some blue sky – hopefully this is a good omen for tomorrow.
I talked to my mom and my children today so am happy, I always enjoy hearing their voices.

Today was a bit of a cloudy day, there was some sun this morning but by late afternoon it had clouded over and by about 7:30 p.m. it was raining – what, rain in sunny Arizona!!
We didn’t do anything exciting today, I got the laundry done so that is another job down although tomorrow I will have to change the bed and do the sheets. There is a rule at the laundromat here that between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. you are only supposed to do two loads at a time so that is why the sheets will have to wait for another day.
My blog started out life as a daily diary which I sent to the kids to let them know where we were and what we were doing, then I started the blog and including pictures. I still do the diary and then just copy it into my blog, this allows me to send my mom, who lives in a retirement home, a copy of my diary on a weekly basis although there are no pictures in the diary. The receptionist at the front desk prints it off and gives it to her so she can also keep up to date on what we have been doing.
Anyways, I have been thinking that if somehow the blog got lost I would only have the diary part so I have been putting the pictures into my diary so that I have the whole thing on my computer. Yesterday I finished doing our trip to Newfoundland but still have three more trips to update, a good lazy days project.
There are some blogs that I follow on a daily basis and one fellow had the following on his blog the other day, I though it was cute so am putting it on mine, hope you don’t mind me copying it from you Ed.
" My Next Life." I want to live my next life backwards. You start out dead and get that out of the way right off the bat. Then, you wake up in a nursing home feeling better every day. When you are kicked out of the nursing home for being too healthy, you spend several years enjoying your retirement and collecting benefit checks. When you start work, you get a gold watch on your first day. You work 40 years or so, getting younger every day until pretty soon you're too young to work. So then, you go to high school, play sports, date, drink, and party. As you get even younger, you become a kid again. You go to elementary school, play, and have no responsibilities. In a few years, you become a baby and everyone runs themselves ragged keeping you happy. You spend your last nine months floating peacefully in luxury, spa-like conditions, central heating, room service on tap. (Are you ready for this?) Until finally, you finish off as an orgasm.
And so ends another wonderful day in our life or retirement.
We didn’t do anything exciting today, I got the laundry done so that is another job down although tomorrow I will have to change the bed and do the sheets. There is a rule at the laundromat here that between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. you are only supposed to do two loads at a time so that is why the sheets will have to wait for another day.
My blog started out life as a daily diary which I sent to the kids to let them know where we were and what we were doing, then I started the blog and including pictures. I still do the diary and then just copy it into my blog, this allows me to send my mom, who lives in a retirement home, a copy of my diary on a weekly basis although there are no pictures in the diary. The receptionist at the front desk prints it off and gives it to her so she can also keep up to date on what we have been doing.
Anyways, I have been thinking that if somehow the blog got lost I would only have the diary part so I have been putting the pictures into my diary so that I have the whole thing on my computer. Yesterday I finished doing our trip to Newfoundland but still have three more trips to update, a good lazy days project.
There are some blogs that I follow on a daily basis and one fellow had the following on his blog the other day, I though it was cute so am putting it on mine, hope you don’t mind me copying it from you Ed.

Today was another nice sunny warm day, perfect weather as far as I’m concerned because as I have said before I do not like it really hot and I hate humidity so the weather here is perfect for me.
We didn’t do a lot this morning and then we met Dave and Janet at the golf course this afternoon, this was an 18 hole par 3 course and it costs $1/hole to play. It was okay, the fairways were very dry and mainly dirt with very little grass but the greens were okay, John and I both agreed that we prefer Foothills to this one as the fairways are all grass and the greens are really nice, but it is always nice to try a different course. There is a 9 hole course John and I want to try, we will just have to find time in our busy schedule to go – tee hee!
After golf we went to the Cracker Barrel for dinner, nothing fancy but it is always good food. It is now time to finish this then relax, I have a good book on the go and it is calling to me. Dave bought an external hard drive and asked John to format it for him so that will be John’s job for tonight.
And so ends another great day in our life of retirement and we look forward to another great day tomorrow.

Today was a very quiet day and a day of leftovers!
When we got up this morning it was overcast and had even rained a few drops but it quickly cleared off and turned into another wonderful day.
This morning I did some cleaning and general puttzing around and then for lunch we had left over pizza. After lunch and dishes I went for a nice long walk, then came back and sat in the sun with my book. I was just dozing off when Tom came along and woke me up so we had a bit of a chat with him, then I went for another walk and John, who had spent most of the afternoon polishing the new aluminum propane tank, went for another bike ride. By the time we got back it was time to heat up the left over pot roast and veggies for dinner.
Another great but quiet day in our life of retirement and we look forward to another great day tomorrow.

Wednesday - January 23, 2008
Today was another nice sunny day but a bit on the cool side, it was perfect weather for doing Quartzsite.
We picked Jim and Sonia up at 10:30 and headed north, about 1-1/2 miles south of Quartzsite the traffic slowed down to a crawl, Jim and Sonia have never been there during the show or busy time so were completely amazed by the traffic, tents of goods and people. We managed to find a parking spot in front of Beaudry RV so started wandering around and looking at their RV’s – boy are there ever some beautiful motor homes out there. Beaudry’s had their huge tent with free lunch so we went and got something to eat, today it was refried beans, rice and chilli, very good. After fortifying ourselves we toured a few more motor homes then headed over to the huge RV show tent. Wow, the number of vendors there is mind boggling but the prices are ridiculous. The cell phone holder I bought here at the market for about $5 was $13 at one place and $14 at another, the popcorn tops which are very popular down here are $8 at the market and were $12 for the same thing today and ladies tops that are $10 here at the market were $24 in Quartzsite, sure is a huge difference in prices so we wondered how much they actually sell. It pays to know the prices before heading up there as in the RV show tent there didn’t appear to be very many deals.
Sonia and I stopped and tasted a soup which one vendor was selling, you just add water and simmer for 15 minutes but we both felt $6.50 for a box of dried soup was too pricey, then a bit later we tasted some popcorn – they had different flavours so we tried a carmel and a cheese (one piece only if you please!) – price was $5 for a small bag. We figure they probably get a lot more people tasting than buying!!
On the way back to the truck Sonia and I stopped at a stall that Janet and I had been in a couple of weeks ago and I bought a lovely dressy zip up jacket with a short sleeved top to match, it was a really good price and too pretty to pass up. Sonia wanted to buy the same set but they didn’t have any matching jackets and tops in her size so she didn’t get one and was very disappointed as she really like them too.
It was about 7 when we got back so we went to Da Boyz Pizza and Pasta for dinner, Jim and Sonia treated us to pizza which was really yummy.
All in all it was another great day in our life of retirement and we look forward to another great day tomorrow.

Today was another sunny, beautiful warm day, I wore my skort golfing and was worried when we first got there that I might be too cool, but it turned out to be quite warm , just a perfect day.
The golf game was fun and as usual I had some good and some bad shots but on the whole my game was not bad – I played with 3 fellows today and held my own with them so I was happy. John won closest to the hole today – he got a whole dollar for it but was really pleased with himself and I was happy for him. It was the water hole that was the closest to the tee today so it was even more challenging than the other holes and he was only a couple of feet from the cup, close to a hole in one! There were 42 golfers today, the best turnout yet. Before we started today Jim announced that John Stewart, from Canada, had had heart problems and was being flown home, John is from Waterdown and I had been in his foursome one of the first times out and last Tuesday he and I sat and chatted for a long time while waiting for the others to come in, hopefully everyone keeps him in their prayers and he is okay.
I have been having a terrible time with my hips this winter so today I wore my running shoes to see if they made a difference and voila, my hips and legs were fine, guess I will have to resort to running shoes which I hate wearing, but on the other hand if the pain is gone it is worth it. On the way home we stopped and I bought a new pair of running shoes so hope they are as good as my old ones which are looking pretty well derelict.
When we got back I walked down to check the mail and noticed Johnny and Tom, who we met in Alabama last spring and who are from Barrie, have arrived so I stopped to say hello and had a chat with them. They left home January 8th and hit a tornado in Memphis, they said it was pretty scary but they were fine so that is the main thing. While I was off visiting John was home working on polishing the new (to us) aluminum propane tank, it is coming up beautiful and will be blinding in the sun!
I put a roast and veggies in the slow cooker this morning so dinner was very easy to get on the table tonight, the roast was quite large so I did enough veggies for a couple of meals, now we will have another easy dinner another night this week.
And so ends another wonderful day of retirement, we look forward to another great day tomorrow.

Today was another gorgeous day, sunny and warm although it was cool enough this morning that I didn’t go to pool aerobics.
John washed the truck and trailer today and then started polishing the aluminum propane tank he bought the other day and wow, is the part he’s done ever shiny – I needed my sun glasses to look at it!! I puttered around the trailer this morning then went for a nice walk this afternoon. I needed to pick up a few groceries so John said if I could wait until about 3 he would go with me, so that was fine by me. It was about 3:30 when we got away and we went to Fry’s and Wal Mart and got home about 5:30, my wallet was lighter but our larder was restocked!
When I was out for my walk I stopped and talked to Vivian and Gord for a few minutes, they are from Saskatchewan and were at the same park as us last year and are now here for 3 months. They were late heading out this year so have only been here a couple of weeks, this is the first time I have seen them although John talked to Gord last week. Tonight we talked to Margie and Mike, with the time difference we are having a hard time connecting so it was good to chat with them again.
John has my sleepy time tea ready so I will enjoy it with a piece of blueberry pie. And so ends another wonderful day of retirement, we look forward to another great day tomorrow.

We went to the market for a bit this afternoon, made a quick stop at Wal Mart and then met Janet and Dave at the golf course just after 3. They were running slow today so it was about 3:45 before we teed off and it was about 5:30 when we finished. We had a good time but my game was so so, I had a few good holes and a few not so good holes, why oh why can’t I be consistent!! We all had the same kind of game so at least I wasn’t alone.
After golf we went to Olive Garden for dinner – thanks Nan and Carl, we used one of our Christmas gift certificates. John and I were going to go to the show after but we would have had to wait about 45 minutes to see Charlie Wilson’s War or over an hour to see the Bucket List so we decided to pass on the show and just come home, maybe some day this week we will make it to a movie. Janet and Dave had to get home for the dog so we didn’t even bother mentioning the show to them.
And so ends another wonderful day of retirement and we look forward to another great day tomorrow.

Today was another nice sunny day, but it was a real laid back day.
We didn’t go any place nor did we do anything exciting, John did his usual bike ride and I went for a long walk – how thrilling! Around 4:30 I headed over to the laundromat and hooray, it wasn’t busy so I managed to get the laundry done. I talked to my mom, sister and our two daughters today so that was the high point of the day, I look forward to my weekend chats with family so am happy.
Although it was a quiet day it was very enjoyable, and so ends another wonderful day of retirement and we look forward to another great day tomorrow.

Today was sunny but still cool, the high was only in the mid 60’s. This morning John headed out to get propane, he had our tank and the fellow next door’s tank but when he got to the propane place there was a huge lineup and he figured he wouldn’t get done and back in time for me to go for my pedicure so he just came home.
Janet & I had appointments at Wal Mart for pedicures so John dropped me off and then went to Superfuels to get propane there, the lineup wasn’t very long and the guy there can run the tanks through a lot faster than the fellow at the other place so it didn’t take long to get the tanks filled. The fellow filling the tanks had an aluminum tank for sale for $85, it was recertified in 2004 so is good for 6 more years before having to be recertified so John bought it, they normally run about $400+ so he figured he really scored.
Janet and I got our pedicures then I decided to get a manicure, the price for both is $30, that is a lot less than the price of a pedicure at home so a good deal. Janet and I were both pleased with the service and the pedicures/manicure so I will be sure to go back there before we leave Yuma.
We went down to the rec hall for the horse races at 4 p.m., it is a first for the park and the room was packed and everyone had a good time. John picked two winners and I got one so we ended up with a profit of $0.25 by the time it was over! They are having another race on February 8th so we will have to plan on attending as it is a good time. We came back and had a burger for dinner, now it is a bit of TV before hitting the sack. Wow, what a windy night it was last night – I kept hearing things rattling and the wind blowing most of the night but by early this morning it had settled down. Even though the wind wasn’t bad today the temperature didn’t get above 60F, so it was a fairly chilly day.
We got to Janet & Dave’s about 12:30, as planned, to go to Costco at El Centro California. Janet & Dave had been there a couple of weeks ago and Janet had bought new glasses so had to go pick them up. John and I let our Costco membership expire a few years ago so today we enjoyed wandering around one for the first time in a long time. I picked up a couple of things – Aveeno Cream was a good deal, but with not a lot of storage in a RV Costco isn’t the place to shop!! After that we stopped at a mall with a Staples as Dave wanted to check there for something so Janet and I went into K-Mart and I found the cooler bag I have been looking for, so I was happy. Janet got a couple of things so it was another successful stop, then we stopped at a new mall as the guys wanted to check out Best Buy. That was the end of our shopping expedition, it was straight home from there and was almost 7 when we got back to their place and John and I headed for home.
The drive to El Centro is through an area of sand dunes, very boring scenery but the ATVers love it and there were quite a few RV’s dry camping out in the desert. Janet and I were saying that with yesterdays wind it must have been a horror show out in the desert, the RV’s would be full of sand and dirt – not my cup of tea. Closer to El Centro are the vegetable fields and it looks a little more civilized.
When we got back I made a quick supper of linguine, sauce and shrimp and it is now time for a bit of TV or reading before heading for bed. I am having trouble keeping my eyes open so I don’t think it will be long before I am all snuggled nice and warm in bed. This morning I called my mom and as luck would have it my sister-in-law answered the phone, they had just come in from seeing the doctor re my mom’s cataracts so Carol was able to fill me in on the details. Mom is scheduled to go for a pre-op on February 1st with surgery on the 12th so here’s hoping all goes well. Mom is 90 and has never had surgery in her life so god willing all will go well for her and she will be able to see again as right now she is pretty well blind in one eye. Can you imagine being that age and never having had surgery – how wonderful!!
The weather forecast was for a cool, windy day today but this morning was sunny, pleasant temperature wise and the wind was very light. We picked up Sonia and Jim about 11 to go to Castle Dome Museum which is about half way to Quartzsite. We drove into Martinez Lake on the way to have lunch, there is a small restaurant at the marina and the hamburgs were very good. When we came out after lunch the wind had picked up and was out of the north, the sun had disappeared and it was downright chilly – so much for a wrong forecast! Thankfully we keep our nylon jackets in the truck but I did wish I had put on jeans rather than capris.
The museum is about 12 miles east off Highway 90 and the first two miles are paved road then it is a washboardy gravel road – nice ride. The museum is very interesting; a couple from Washington State have assembled a number of buildings from the surrounding abandoned mining areas and created a small town there. They have a lot of information about the life, times and people who lived and mined in the area and it is an interesting place to visit; the museum includes a saloon, bar, hotel, church, jail, theatre, a 50’s diner, general store, dressmaker’s shop, bordello, miner’s cabin, mine shafts and equipment etc. We spent a couple of hours there and thoroughly enjoyed it but Sonia and I agreed that it would have been a hard life out there in the desert but certainly thousands of people did it. At one time a local school had 17 children in attendance so I guess there were also a number of families living in these mining towns. It was also interesting to learn that a lot of names we heard mentioned on last week’s Yuma walk, including local merchants, ship captains etc. also owned mines in the area.
After we dropped off Jim and Sonia we stopped and picked up a roast chicken for dinner, that with some fresh hot crusty bread and a salad made a quick but delicious dinner.
Tonight I am doing this with one eye on the computer and the other on Law and Order, a bit more TV and it will be time for bed. And so ends another wonderful day in our life of retirement.
The weather forecast was for a cool, windy day today but this morning was sunny, pleasant temperature wise and the wind was very light. We picked up Sonia and Jim about 11 to go to Castle Dome Museum which is about half way to Quartzsite. We drove into Martinez Lake on the way to have lunch, there is a small restaurant at the marina and the hamburgs were very good. When we came out after lunch the wind had picked up and was out of the north, the sun had disappeared and it was downright chilly – so much for a wrong forecast! Thankfully we keep our nylon jackets in the truck but I did wish I had put on jeans rather than capris.
The museum is about 12 miles east off Highway 90 and the first two miles are paved road then it is a washboardy gravel road – nice ride. The museum is very interesting; a couple from Washington State have assembled a number of buildings from the surrounding abandoned mining areas and created a small town there. They have a lot of information about the life, times and people who lived and mined in the area and it is an interesting place to visit; the museum includes a saloon, bar, hotel, church, jail, theatre, a 50’s diner, general store, dressmaker’s shop, bordello, miner’s cabin, mine shafts and equipment etc. We spent a couple of hours there and thoroughly enjoyed it but Sonia and I agreed that it would have been a hard life out there in the desert but certainly thousands of people did it. At one time a local school had 17 children in attendance so I guess there were also a number of families living in these mining towns. It was also interesting to learn that a lot of names we heard mentioned on last week’s Yuma walk, including local merchants, ship captains etc. also owned mines in the area.
After we dropped off Jim and Sonia we stopped and picked up a roast chicken for dinner, that with some fresh hot crusty bread and a salad made a quick but delicious dinner.

Today was a perfect day – warm, sunny and just a light breeze, great golfing weather.
There were 40 people out for golf today, the biggest turn out yet this season. John and I lucked out as I drew a 5 and he had an 8 so we weren’t too far from each other when playing, it is a real pain when one of us draws an ace and is the first team off and the other draws a 9 or 10 so is one of the last ones to tee off, a lot of waiting when that happens. We both had a good day, some good shots and some bad ones, but a good time was had by all and that is what counts. They have a hole in one pot, it costs $1 to join and that is all you pay until someone gets a hole in one then the pot would have to be replenished. We paid a buck each the first time we played last year, figured that if you aren’t in you won’t win! Today Jim, the fellow who organizes the scramble, mentioned the hole in one deal and said if anyone hadn’t paid and wanted to he would be glad to take their money and add them to the list. Be danged if a lady didn’t get a hole in one today and hadn’t paid her $1 so she missed out on a pot of about $60, guess I would be kicking my butt if it had been me!
We got home about 4:30, after a quick stop at Fry’s and Wal Mart, and I sat out for about ½ hour then the sun was past the patio and it got kind of cool so I headed in. We are having trouble with the internet tonight so if it isn’t working in the morning we will give Time Warner a call, meanwhile I hope I can get this posted using the park internet, it will be slow but if I can get it done I don’t care.
And so ends another wonderful day of retirement and we have a full day planned for tomorrow.

Today was a quiet day, nothing exciting. It was nice and sunny but very windy so I didn’t get to sit outside as I would have been blown away.
This morning was cleaning and then about 4:30 I went to do laundry, it was quiet when I got there but by the time I was finished it was a zoo, there were a couple of people in a tiff over who got the next drier!! Guess it will be like this for the next couple of months, oh joy.
Tonight after dinner John and I got reminiscing about life, our children, our jobs, etc. so it was a fun evening. I think it started by me saying that on Saturday coming back from Quartzsite Janet had been reminiscing about our childhood and saying how she loved the house I grew up in and will always remember the Friday nights we spent there playing board and card games and bugging my brother and his friends! Janet and I have been friends for over 55 years so lots of memories there and we often talk about old friends and things we did. All friends are important but ones you have grown up with and known all your life are especially precious. Okay, so much for this, time to go to bed.

Today was another warm sunny day but it was quite windy, fortunately the wind was out of the north west so it wasn’t a cold one.
I had booked a T-time for Janet, Dave and us but Janet and Dave backed out because of the wind. John and I went and it wasn’t at all bad, we have certainly golfed in stronger winds than today and as long as the dust isn’t blowing on us it’s no big deal. The course was quite busy so it was a bit of a slow game but I think it will be like that now until early March when the snowbirds start heading north, so we either live with it or stop golfing.
We met Janet & Dave at Mr. Liu’s Chinese buffet for dinner, it was good but we are not really big on the buffets so once a season down here is enough for us. Mr. Liu’s is right beside a Wal Mart so we made a quick stop before heading home as John needed some socks.
And so ends another wonderful day in our life of retirement and so far there are no plans for tomorrow so it will probably be a quiet day.

Today was another gorgeous, sunny day with a bit of a breeze, perfect weather for an outing.
We picked Janet and Dave up about 10 and headed up to Quartzsite, it is about a 1-1/2 hour drive through the desert, with a beautiful mountain ridge in the east all the way up. One of the mountains has a large dome on the top and you can see the dome for miles, from the park here it is probably at least 40 miles away but can always be seen – very pretty. There were thousands of trailers in the desert and that number will double or triple next weekend with the show.
Quartzsite has all the usual booths open and the tent is up as the big RV show starts on Friday, then the place will be a zoo. It was busy but we weren’t tripping over people and it was the usual vendors – beads, jewelry, rocks, t-shirts, hardware and on and on. I bought a t-shirt at one of the stalls, the same shirts are sold here at the market for the same price but there was no tax today so a bit of a savings. One store had 4 books for $5 so I got 4 books and I got a pair of earrings. I have lost 2 earrings in the last few months, both of which were Zuni with the different stones, so bought another pair today to replace them. Janet and I have a friend who has a little shop on Vancouver Island and she had given Janet some money to buy her some rings to sell so Janet picked up a few today and has also gotten some for her in Mexico. I liked the Mexico ones better, but they were more expensive.
After about 3 hours of browsing Janet and I met up with the guys and we headed out. On the way out we found another area that had never had booths set up before and now there are tons of them and then there is another whole street of vendors that we didn’t get to. It would take days if you wanted to do it all, somehow I can’t imagine anyone wanting to do that!!
On the drive home the mountains were beautiful with the way the sun was hitting them so a pretty drive. We went back to Janet & Dave’s for dinner, she had put veggies and a turkey breast in the crock pot before she left so it was an easy dinner when we got back. There was a gorgeous sunset tonight so John and Dave went out and took pictures, lots of pictures.
And so ends another wonderful day in our life of retirement.

Gotta love this weather, as far as I’m concerned it’s perfect, the temperature isn’t too hot but it is pleasantly warm.
This morning was water aerobics and vacuuming, real exciting. This afternoon we did a bit of shopping - the Bargain Barn, Wal Mart and Fry’s, again we didn’t buy too much but the larder is full. Not an exciting day but pleasant none the less.
Tonight we are watching a bit of TV but I think I will be ready for bed early, tomorrow promises to be a busy day.
Sorry this isn’t very exciting but some days are just quiet and uneventful, but still another wonderful day in our life of retirement.

Wow, what a gorgeous day, the temperature was in the low 70’s so just perfect as far as I’m concerned.
This afternoon we went over to Jim & Sonia’s at Desert Paradise Park for a visit and had a good time. Ida, who we were beside the first year we were there, came over for a drink and a visit, she is 78 and a going concern! It was actually quite hot sitting in the sun but I won’t complain as we have been waiting for it to be like this.
On the way home we stopped at Lowe’s and picked up our new Bunn coffee maker so when we got back I got it unpacked and ready to use tomorrow morning, we want to make sure it works okay then will pack it away until we get home.
By the time I was finished with that it was time to change our clothes and head out for our Old Yuma walking tour. Tonight the weather was still really nice so jeans, a sweatshirt and vest were very comfortable for clothing. The tour was interesting and we learned a lot about Yuma, it was the first city west of the Mississippi to be designated a Heritage City and there are only about 8 cities in all of the US with that designation – quite surprising until she explained. Yuma was the link to the west during the gold rush with a rope ferry across the Colorado River and then was settled a few years later by those returning from the gold rush. For years anyone in Oregon, for instance, wanting to drive to Chicago had to come down through Yuma to get there as the east west highway went through Yuma and here was the only bridge crossing the Colorado. This was in the years when there were no roads across the rockies. The tour was interesting but we found the woman doing the tour rather disjointed in her presentation, she would start telling us about something then get sidetracked and sometimes go on just a bit too long. I think this is something new for her so hopefully she will get her presentation down a bit more pat as there is a lot of interesting history. There are apparently a number of haunted homes and old buildings in the old section but we didn’t see anything resembling a ghost on our tour.
On the way home we stopped at Applebee’s for a light snack, now it is time for a cuppa Sleepy Time Tea then off to bed, and so ends another wonderful day in our life of retirement.

Today was an absolutely gorgeous day, we could handle this type of weather every day, and never complain. This morning I went down for the water aerobics and it is getting busier, there is not enough room for every body to do the exercises which require holding onto the side of the pool so some people were in the middle doing them, I have a balance problem so not having the side of the pool to hold onto could present some pretty interesting problems for me!
This afternoon I sat out and read for a while then went for another lymph drainage massage that left me feeling wonderful. I was really pleased with the results of the last massage so thought another one would only make my arm better, so here’s hoping!
This afternoon we got a neighbour, we have not had anone on our curbside since we got here so knew sooner or later we would get someone there and today was the day. I haven’t had a chance to do more than say hello as I didn’t want to bother them when they were setting up, maybe tomorrow we will get a chance to chat.
Wow, another day is gone and we haven’t done an awful lot – guess this is what retirement is all about. Can’t wait for another great day tomorrow.

Today was another nice day but the wind was out of the north so it was a bit cool, but who’s complaining!! Not me!
We had our golf scramble today and as usual had a good time with some good shots, some bad shots and even a couple of really bad shots as well as a couple of really good shots!! I guess that is what it is all about.
On the way home we stopped for propane then when we got back John washed the truck – which was badly needed. By the time he got done I was ready to do laundry, so that is another dirty job done.
I was reading another blog this morning where she said about defrosting the fridge and I just said to John thankfully that is one job we don’t have to contend with. We have an apartment sized fridge in our RV which runs on electric only but with our solar system this is not a problem. On the 14 hour boat crossing from Newfoundland this past September we put the fridge on Vacation Mode and when we landed and got into the RV park in Nova Scotia everything was still frozen in the freezer and cold in the fridge, what more could we ask for! We have to give a big hand to Andy at Can-Am RV for trying out new things and proving they work. So far the only problem we have encountered is the bracket suspending the cheese compartment broke so we now have the compartment sitting on the shelf rather than suspended – big deal!!
Well, tis the end to another nice day here in the south. We are just watching the news and although it is warm in Canada now they are calling for more really cold weather so we are happy to be enjoying the weather here and not having to put up with the freeze, warm at home.

Sometime during the night, probably around 4 a.m, the wind picked up and it actually rained for a couple of minutes. The curbside awning did a fair bit of moving around but not enough for me to wake up John to go out and put it up. He was up about 1:30 with an upset stomach and took a gravol so when it got windy etc. he was out like a light. Meanwhile I woke up at 1:30 when he got up and was still awake at 4, somehow that isn’t fair.

I did some cleaning this morning then this afternoon we decided to go out for a bit. We haven’t been to Mervyn’s so decided to check it out, it is another store like Sears, J. C. Penney etc. has everything from soup to nuts. I didn’t get anything but John finally found a new pair of pants so he was happy. We also stopped at Albertson’s and Wal Mart as well as checking to see if our new coffee maker was in at Lowe’s – not until Thursday.
The sky was really pretty when we were out today, beautiful shades of blue but there was no place to stop and get a good picture – grrrr!’’
Today we got our first electric bill - $25.20 for 40 days at $0.18/kw hr. and there was no tax, gotta love it!
And so ends another day in the sunny south, tonight is relaxing with a book and TV.

Today was mostly sunny and the temperature was in the high 60’s so it was quite pleasant.
We went golfing this afternoon and again it was fairly busy but not as slow as last week. After golf we decided to go to Logan’s Roadhouse for dinner as someone had told Dave it was good, bad move on our part. John, Dave and I had ribs and they were okay but Texas Roadhouse is better and our rice was barely warm. Dave and I ordered cesear salad as one of our sides and they were out – at 6 p.m.!! Janet sent her chicken back as she said it tasted off and her veggies were cold. We heard people all around us complaining about cold food and slow service and yes our service was slow but we didn’t complain as we have no trouble talking while we wait and as I said, hey we’re retired – what’s the hurry! Anyways, it’s another restaurant we won’t bother going back to.
Now I have a question for all you RV’ers out there. In this little house on wheels we are having a difference of opinion on how to manage the hot water, I say turn it on in the morning and leave it on until bedtime, that way it only has to totally heat up once. John thinks it should go on in the morning and then as soon as showers and dishes are over he turns it off, then it goes on at dinnertime in time to do dishes then off again. On days like today when we are out for dinner so are not home to warm it up to do dinner dishes, washing up before going to bed can be a chilly experience!! I’m not sure that one method is more efficient than the other (and that is what this is all about) so wonder if anyone can tell me if one way is more efficient. Any replies I get I will post on my blog so others can see what the different opinions on this are, in case someone else is interested.

Saturday - January 5, 2008
Today was overcast all day but warm enough so it wasn’t unpleasant. This morning we did the usual puttzing around then Janet and Dave arrived about 1:30. The guys headed out for the gun show and Janet and I headed for Yuma Palms Mall to do some shopping.
We ended up spending the whole afternoon in two stores – Kohls and Marshalls, both of which had some good sales. Neither of us bought too much but had fun poking around without our hubbies standing around looking totally bored. On the way home we pulled up at a red light and lo and behold who was in front of us but the guys, sure don’t know how they managed to spend the whole afternoon shopping when they couldn’t do it with us, guess maybe it is because we aren’t interested in the same stores (no kidding!).
We came back and John barbecued burgers for dinner and if it didn’t rain while he was out cooking, fortunately it didn’t amount to much so no big deal and there was little wind so he was able to put out the awning to keep him dry. Here’s hoping that is the end of the rain as we have a T-time booked for tomorrow afternoon.
We ended up spending the whole afternoon in two stores – Kohls and Marshalls, both of which had some good sales. Neither of us bought too much but had fun poking around without our hubbies standing around looking totally bored. On the way home we pulled up at a red light and lo and behold who was in front of us but the guys, sure don’t know how they managed to spend the whole afternoon shopping when they couldn’t do it with us, guess maybe it is because we aren’t interested in the same stores (no kidding!).

Today was a partly sunny day but was in the high 60’s so very pleasant. I didn’t sleep very good last night, was up for about 2-1/2 hours during the night so of course I didn’t want to wake up this morning and when I did I felt groggy and kinda grouchy. I didn’t make it to pool aerobics so was ticked off with myself the rest of the morning, I really hate the nights I have trouble sleeping as the next day just isn’t as great as it should be.
I did some cleaning this morning while John was out for his bike ride as it is much easier to do when I am by myself. This afternoon John went to get his hair cut then came back for me and we went out for a bit. We went down into Old Yuma to get fuel and there was a huge lineup so John was all set to leave but I suggested that as we were already there we might as well wait, it ended up that we waited less than 5 minutes. The price of fuel has really spiked here, most places it is between $3.30-3.39/gal. but this one station is always cheaper and today it was $3.19. On the way back we stopped at Wal Mart to pick up a couple of things I forgot yesterday – I had forgotten to take my list so there were a couple of things I needed that I didn’t remember but basically did pretty good without the list.
Tonight I am dead tired so am going to head for bed and will post this in the morning. Hopefully, I will sleep well tonight!

Today was a warm day but overcast and dull, nonetheless it was a nice day. This morning was quiet with not a lot happening, gee we seem to have a lot of those days.
This afternoon we went to the Yuma Bargain Warehouse that the people next door told us about. It is an interesting place with everything from A to Z, excluding food, so we had a good time browsing. I bought a book for $1 and some solar lights – real exciting. From there it was off to Fry’s and Wal Mart to pick up some groceries then home to do laundry. It was just after 5 when I went to do laundry and there were a couple of other people there, I guess my favourite time has been figured out by others! Oh well, as long as I can get it done I don’t care how many other people are there, I just don’t want to get there and find all the machines taken.
Needless to say by the time I got the laundry done we had a late dinner and now it is quiet time before going to bed.

Today was a gorgeous day, I went to pool aerobics which I enjoy, and always feel much better after doing. By the time I got back and showered etc. it was lunch time so we had some lunch then I went out and sat in the sun with my book for the afternoon, that is a first in a long time.
The weather forecast isn’t great for the next few days – they are even calling for RAIN on the weekend – sure do hope they are wrong. Dave and Janet want to golf on Sunday so I will book at T-time tomorrow morning in the hopes that the weatherman is all wet –LOL!
I think Dave & John are going to the Gun Show on either Friday or Saturday so hopefully we girls will have a shopping day, not that there is anything I really need but it is always fun to go shopping with a friend. Well the wind picked up again early this morning and blew cold all day. We went to the Tuesday golf scramble, there were 24 brave souls there, and this is the first time I can recall wearing a jacket the whole time – tells you something about the wind. The wind also played havoc with the golfing – if you hit too high the ball either dropped straight down or took off in a totally different direction, frustrating but we had fun so it was good. The fellow I played with was having trouble with driving and I was having trouble with my putting so we managed to complement each other. There were no great scores today – wonder if that was due to the wind and the hangovers!
That was our excitement for the day, we came back and vegged out and had a dinner of lefovers. Sounds thrilling I know, but we enjoyed the day and that is what this is all about.

We’re beginning to think we are in Texas rather than Arizona, the wind was brutal all day today; the sun was warm but the wind was out of the north so quite cool and boy did it blow! I went over about 4:30 to do laundry and when I came out the wind had died down and it was really nice – now this is more like it!
Today was a non event – I did a major cleaning job as Molly just hasn’t turned up, sure don’t know where that lady is when I want her but she seems to be in hiding!! I wussed out of water aerobics this morning as even though the temperature wasn’t too bad the wind sure made it feel a lot colder – maybe Wednesday!
We had a nice dinner and are now watching them ring in the New Year in other parts of the U.S and Canada.
Happy New Year to all and we wish everyone health and happiness in 2008 and for those of you who are RV’ers we wish you all safe travels, exciting adventures and wonderful new vistas.

Today was another beautiful sunny day here in Yuma, the temperature is warming up and it was a very pleasant day.
We went golfing this afternoon and it was busier than it has been. There was a foursome in front of us, with three sets of clubs, does that tell you anything! They were as slow as molasses in January, I think they figured they were the only ones on the course. At one point the two women were standing in the middle of the fairway trying to decide who should hit first, I really had to control myself not to yell “will someone just hit the g#@!!!* ball”; then the one woman without clubs was forever sauntering back and forth to her husbands bag to get a club when it was her turn to hit rather than being ready to hit when it was her turn– grrrr! As far as I’m concerned this sort of behaviour on the golf course is inexcusable and these people should be given a lesson in golf etiquette. Okay, that’s my rant for today.
Today I remembered to take my camera and while we were waiting at the second and third tees I managed to get some pictures of the golf course's resident egret, roadrunner and curlews. Last week when we were there the egret had just caught a fish so we got to watch him eat it – it looked pretty gross to me but he sure seemed to enjoy it!
On the way home we stopped at Fry’s and got a steak for dinner tomorrow night and some shrimp and a bottle of Asti to have at midnight (that is if we can stay awake that long!). We came home and put the groceries away and then went to Cracker Barrel for dinner – very good and very reasonably priced.
And so ends another great day, this certainly is a wonderful, fun way to spend retirement!

Last night was another cold one, I woke up at 6 this morning to hear the fans running so knew it was cold out. It did turn out to be a nice sunny day and reasonably warm, very enjoyable.
John went out this morning to get propane, a job that turned into an effort in frustration, but he did get it. He went to where we usually go and they were closed so he decided to go to another place where it is cheaper but busier, guess that was the understatement of the day today! He said he waited about 45 minutes to get it but after about 15 minutes he decided he had waited so long by then that he might just as well wait until he got his turn. Anyways, we now have two full tanks again so that should do for a while but with the cool weather the little heater goes a lot, thankfully it is cheaper than either the furnace of an electric heater.
Just before John got back Janet and Heather arrived with a book I wanted to borrow and they had picked me up a top I had asked them to look for if they went to Mexico. They said the wait to come back from Mexico was 2-1/2 hours so we have no intention of heading over there as there is nothing I want badly enough to stand in line for that long to get back!! We don’t understand what the problem here is as I read a couple of blogs and also know people who are in the Rio Grande area of Texas and there is never any mention of lineups to go back and forth there so go figure what the problem here is.
I have wanted to get a Bunn coffee maker for our new place so have been watching prices and saw that Lowe’s internet site had the one I want on sale but as usual I got caught up ordering it over the internet when it came to entering our billing address. Off we went to Lowe’s and they didn’t have it on sale in the store (it was $20 more) but a salesman went on the internet and ordered it for me at the sale price so it should be here in about a week. After that we went and got a sub then a quick stop at Wal Mart as there was something John wanted then home.
Today is the whole family gathering for dinner at our daughter Nancy’s so I am going to give them all a call, we miss being there with everyone but on the other hand the weather here is so much nicer. We will just have to dream about the yummy food we are missing!

Today was another cool one, the fans ran all night last night in the orchards so you know it is cold when that happens. They say it is to start warming up again so we have our fingers crossed that they are right.
This afternoon I went for my massage and hopefully it has done some good and got my arm moving, it felt really good and I did enjoy it and know that some of the swelling has gone down – now I can only hope that it lasts. She also gave me some suggestions for things I can do myself so I will also give them a try.
I came back and picked up John then we went off to Wal Mart to pick up a couple of things I forgot yesterday. By the time we got home the afternoon was done – where does the time go!!
Not an exciting day as you can see but enjoyable none the less.

Today was another non pool day – the wind was fierce and out of the north this morning so I wussed out again and didn’t go. I called and got an appointment for a lymph drainage massage tomorrow afternoon so hope it does some good and gets my arm going down.
This morning was mundane chores like cleaning etc. then this afternoon we went to the market and managed to wander around there for a while. From there we found the massage place so I don’t have to spend time looking for it tomorrow (although Alice did a good job of directing us there once she got the hint of which way I wanted to go!). After that we went to the mall and while John was in Circuit City I checked out Bed & Bath but didn’t find any deals, then it was off to Wal Mart to pick up a few groceries.
We got a new neighbour yesterday so met Birdie when we got home, they are from Illinois and are here for three months. We chatted for a bit but then I had to get busy and get the groceries put away, I had a couple of frozen items so figured I’d better get them in the freezer. He got a laugh out of me, within 3 minutes I had said “eh”, guess that is a thing with him when talking to us Canadians to see how long it takes us to say it.
I guess it is time to think about dinner, I don’t imagine it will take long to heat up leftovers!

Boxing Day – did everyone get out and take advantage of all the sales? In the states Boxing Day is just another day, it isn’t a holiday and it isn’t a big shopping day, here the day after Thanksgiving replaces our Boxing Day and boy do they have the deals on then.
We had a wonderful Christmas with Janet, Dave & Heather and hopefully everyone found the dinner delicious – we had the traditional turkey dinner with mincemeat pie for dessert – yummy!
Today was a quiet day and we didn’t do anything exciting. We woke up about 6:00 a.m. to hear the wind machines going so knew it was cold, as it turned out the low was 34F (1C) so it was cold! Needless to say I didn’t go to pool aerobics this morning, I talked to a woman this afternoon who said there were 5 in the pool this morning – brave souls!!
We were supposed to go to friends at Desert Paradise this afternoon for a visit but Jim called this morning to say his mom has the flu so needless to say we didn’t go. It is too bad as his mom is here visiting from Calgary and the last thing she would want is to be sick, not a fun way to spend your first time in Arizona and we wish her a speedy recovery.
I called my mom this morning (afternoon for her) and had a chat as yesterday it was hard to talk with everyone there. She enjoyed her Christmas and is looking forward to the whole family get together at our daughter Nancy’s this Saturday. John and I miss the family get togethers and seeing everyone but we sure don’t miss the winter weather!
John started cleaning the fantastic fans yesterday and finished them today, it is nice to see them so clean again. I sat out in the sun this afternoon and read for a while then about 4 went and did laundry, so far I have been lucking out with that time for doing laundry so hope it continues.
John also cleaned out the barbecue today and couldn’t wait to start getting it greased up again so tonight he did burgers for dinner – very good.
We finally caught up with Mike & Marg tonight so had a good chat with them and wish them well with their move next week. And so ends another wonderful day, we will see what tomorrow brings.

Wow, Christmas Eve Day, where does the time go! This morning was very cool, only 47F (8C) at 9:15 so I decided to be a wussy and forego the pool aerobics. As it turned out it warmed up quite nicely today and was actually another wonderful day here in the south. I have had a couple of bad nights, where I couldn’t sleep, so was feeling quite crappy today so kind of dragged my butt this morning. I spent some time on the computer and did some vacuuming, then after lunch I laid down for a bit and got up feeling much better.
I went for a nice walk this afternoon then came back and sat out on the patio and finished my book and by the time that was done the sun was going down and it was cooling off.
John went out tonight to start the barbecue and called me out to see the moon, it was just coming up in front of the mountains in the distance and was gorgeous. We both took some pictures but I don’t know how they turned out, if there is a good one I will post it.
Today was a nice day for us but my thoughts were with our friends and relatives who have lost loved ones very recently, this must be a very hard time of year for them and my heart aches for them and their families in their loss.
Tonight I “Jingled” a couple of neighbours, I know they won’t be able to reciprocate to anyone else but do hope they enjoyed their goodie bag. We are looking forward to a nice day tomorrow and our Christmas dinner with Janet, Dave & Heather.

Sunday - December 23, 2007
We are back to the cooler weather again, today the high was 61F (16C) but it was sunny and still nice enough to golf in short sleeves and a vest. Speaking of golf, my game sucked big time today, don’t know if I’m not playing enough or need to take some time off but something needs to happen to improve it! We played with a couple from Chilliwack this afternoon, they were very nice and not real great golfers so I didn’t feel too bad about my game – sure hate to play a bad game when you are playing with real good golfers!
After golf we stopped at Fry’s and picked up a few groceries so I think I am all set for Christmas dinner now. When we got home we called our daughters, they and their families were having their Christmas get together today so it was nice to talk to both of them as well as our son-in-laws. Wish we were there with them but when we hear about all the snow, then today it was raining, we are thankful we are down here where it is warmer and NO SNOW OR RAIN!!
After talking to them we went to Circuit City to pick up a router for the computers then to Red Lobster for dinner – yummy!! Now John is trying to get the router all set up so we both can use the high speed internet, we have a wireless router but they don’t want you using them in the park as it interferes with their system so John saw one on sale that wasn’t wireless so decided to pop for it. Thank goodness he knows what he is doing because I wouldn’t have a clue what to do to set up something like that, guess you have to be a bit of a techno weenie!
When we got home there was a Christmas gift bag on the doorstep, it had some candy in it and a “Jingle” and you are supposed to keep the “Jingle” on the front door, make two copies of it and two treat bags and deliver them to someone who doesn’t have a “Jingle” on their front door. Guess that will give me something to do tomorrow, I will go down to the office and see if I can get them to make me the copies rather than having to drag the printer out from under the bed.
All is now set up for both of us to use the high speed internet and it seems to be working well so here’s hoping. I will get this posted now, kind of late tonight but at least it’s done.

Thank goodness he knows what he is doing because I wouldn’t have a clue what to do to set up something like that, guess you have to be a bit of a techno weenie!
When we got home there was a Christmas gift bag on the doorstep, it had some candy in it and a “Jingle” and you are supposed to keep the “Jingle” on the front door, make two copies of it and two treat bags and deliver them to someone who doesn’t have a “Jingle” on their front door. Guess that will give me something to do tomorrow, I will go down to the office and see if I can get them to make me the copies rather than having to drag the printer out from under the bed.
All is now set up for both of us to use the high speed internet and it seems to be working well so here’s hoping. I will get this posted now, kind of late tonight but at least it’s done.
Saturday - December 22, 2007
Today was another sunny but cool day, we’re not complaining though as the sun is shining and that is better than having rain or snow!
John went out this morning to get propane and a board to put the satellite dish on, he had it on a fence post and the post has all bent so he decided to do the board again, now he is just trying to get it re set up. While he was out I puttered around some and then called my mom, I lucked out as my sister was there so had a good chat with her also.
This afternoon we went to the market, I took a pile of books back and got a credit for them towards some new ones, that is a better deal than just buying them and then putting them in the library after I read them. I also picked up a new sweatshirt and short sleeved top, I had sorted through my tops and found a few that were ready either for the garbage or goodwill so thought I would replace them with new ones so that should do me for a while. They are so cheap down here that I can afford to buy a few and for some strange reason the cotton here is so much better than at home – go figure.
We met Sonia and Jim and Jim’s mother at the market, his mother is down visiting for about 10 days so we had a bit of a chat with them. They have invited us over next Wednesday afternoon for a visit so we will have more of a chance to talk with them there than at the market.
As you can see today wasn’t a real exciting day but as usual it was a nice one, now it’s time to think about dinner and then tonight I plan on starting one of my new books.

Well, there are lots of happy people today, those who are through school or work for the holidays, hope you all enjoy them.
We were supposed to get high winds during the night but it was quite calm when we got up but just as I was heading for the pool the wind finally started to blow, needless to say it was quite cool at the pool if you didn’t stay well down in the water – the hot tub sure felt good after!
This afternoon I headed out to get my hair cut then wanted to go to J. C. Penney’s to get another electric blanket while they are still on sale, or so I thought. I fought lots of traffic to get to the mall, only to find out that the sale has now changed, the other day they were on for half price and today they are buy one at the regular price and get a second one for $1.00 more. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the bill for the one I bought on Monday to see if I could get today’s deal, so after looking around a bit I left empty handed and headed for Sears to see if they were on sale there. Now, to make a left turn to get to the road out of the mall I would have either have had to take my life in my hands or wait for hours, so I decided to go right and take the long way, a good move as the traffic wasn’t too bad once I got out of the mall. Needless to say I was really muttering under my breath at Penney’s as on Monday it said the sale was on till the 22nd so that was why I even bothered to go today. The blanket we bought really works good so we wanted to get another one to take home for our new park model.
Sears had the blankets on for half price so I was happy again and after buying one I wandered around the store for a bit then headed across the road to Beall’s outlet. I found a pair of capris and a top at Beall’s so again was happy and ready to head home. I took a different way home, figured it would be faster as long as it didn’t end up in a dead end in the Marine Air Force Base, but I lucked out and it went where I thought it would.
Today I was having trouble with my computer, it was really slow and driving me crazy so John said he would look at it while I was out. When I got back he said the problem was that I didn’t have enough memory (boy, me and my computer have the same problem!) so he put his memory card in my computer and it worked fine, turns out that installing the new Leopard used up most of my memory. John had gone on the internet and found Best Buy had 1G of memory for $29, regularly $104 so he ordered two and was waiting for me to come home so he could go to Best Buy and pick them up. Now my computer is working great and I am a happy camper. Now, I just wish there was an easy fix for my own memory.
Well, I have a good book waiting so will get this posted and then read for a bit. The wind seems to have died down again so tomorrow should be a nice day.

Thursday - December 20, 2007
Today was another gorgeous day but tomorrow it is supposed to change – high winds and cooler so we will see what happens.
John spent a lot of the day cleaning the trailer and truck –we are now nice and clean again as I spent time doing the inside while he was doing the outside. I had a lot of e-mail this morning (love it) so spent a fair bit of time replying. Around 4 John rode his bike over to the laundry and came back and said it was quiet so off I went to get that job over with. Yesterday in the pool everyone was saying how busy the laundry is but I didn’t tell them that I have found meal times for normal people a good time to go, I’d hate to find it really busy then as a result of telling everyone what a good time to go it is! Just as I was folding the laundry a woman came in and said what a beautiful sunset there was so I grabbed my camera out of the truck and took some pictures, a couple of which I will post.
We got a lovely cd from our daughter by David Francy, I have never heard of him before but we did enjoy it – thanks Kel.
That’s it for another day, nothing exciting but a very nice one none the less.

Today was another gorgeous day, the temperatures are just perfect as far as I’m concerned – hot but not too hot. This morning I got another good workout at pool aerobics, I do enjoy them and find them less stressful on the joints than regular aerobics.
I had an e-mail from my sister on Monday that one of our cousin’s 63 year old husband died suddenly on Monday morning, then this morning I had an e-mail from a friend that one of our former co-worker’s wife was killed last night while crossing a county road after her grandson’s school concert – both very sad and upsetting, our thoughts are with both of their families at this difficult time. It certainly points out how fragile life can be.
This afternoon we went down to the mall as I wanted to go to J. C. Penney’s but when we got there it was closed and all taped off with yellow tape, it appeared that perhaps they were having electrical problems. I went to a couple of other stores but didn’t buy anything other than a couple of sympathy cards – last of the big time spenders!
And again another day is gone, I don’t know where the time goes but it does seem to fly by. It is time, and past, to think about dinner but it will be quick to get on the table, I just have to heat up leftovers!
