Thursday – February 23 – Today was the day to try Algondes, Mexico and see if it was any better than San Luis and what a difference. The Arizona side was very well organized for parking and the Mexican vendors were glad to see the tourists. There were shops and stalls all over the place and the prices were all in $’s with the vendors willing to bargain. There were a lot of the same things – jewelry, purses, wallets, hats, stained glass and on and on and a lot of drug and liquor stores, dentists, plastic surgery, optometrists, etc. It was an interesting day and we were glad we went as it kind of took away the bad taste San Luis had left with us.
We had lunch at a restaurant some people here in the park had recommended and it was good. The lineup to leave Mexico was really long, it probably took us about 45 minutes to go through the line and customs – and they didn’t even ask if we had bought anything! It was quite interesting watching the customs officer with his dog checking out the cars as they were going through, the dog was certainly having a good workout.
To get to Algondes you go in off the interstate in California and we started to see all the RV’s boon docking out in the desert – amazing! Dave and Janet said there are really a lot of them along the interstate, it will be interesting to see them when we go to California.
