Saturday – March 25 – Today has been really hot, so we have had a lazy day. I went over to the laundromat across the road from the park and did laundry this morning. After I got the loads into the washer I came out to come back to the park and use the phone and there was an Ontario car at the gas pump and the fellow was walking by our truck. As you don’t see a lot of Ontario cars down here I asked him where he was from and he said Kitchener, so I said we were from Waterloo and we chatted for a few minutes. After a couple of minutes of chatting I asked him if he was so and so and he looked at me real strangely and said yes and I told him we live next door to his mother. Small world!! We had a nice chat and he said his mother would be surprised to hear how we met when she calls them tomorrow night.

Our two daughters were visiting my mother in Kitchener today so I called my mother after lunch their time and had a nice chat with all 3 of them, talk about killing 3 birds with one stone! They said it was snowing lightly so I told them it was in the 80’s here, guess who was jealous of who. After the laundry John and I had lunch and since then we have been reading, as I said a lazy day. I wanted to come down and get some pictures on my blog from yesterday, so am now sitting on the patio alongside the Colorado River enjoying the nice breeze and scenery. There are lots of boats going by, this is a great area for boating and fishing. Life couldn’t be much better than this!

Friday – March 24 – Today we again drove to Lake Havasu City, parked the truck and walked across London Bridge. We went down the stairs to the walkway along the lake and there was a tour boat just leaving to take a tour up to Copper Canyon so we decided to take it. It was extremely interesting, we learned that Lake Havasu was created in 1938 when they built the Parker Dam and it took 4 years for the lake to fill. A man by the name of McCullough (as in chain saws as well as other things) saw potential for the area and started to develop. He bought London Bridge in 1968 and had it transported to Lake Havasu and erected for a total cost of approximately $7.5M. The bridge was built on dry land and after it was finished they dredged a channel, thereby creating the present day island.

Copper Canyon is a canyon off the lake a couple of miles south of Lake Havasu City and was a real pretty spot. It was a nice boat ride on a gorgeous day and also very informative. After the boat we wandered through some shops, had some lunch and then got groceries before heading back home.
Thursday – March 23 – Today was another nice day. Janet & Dave got away shortly before 9, it was sad to say good bye again but this time there were no tears. John and I drove into Parker then up the California side of the river. We checked out a couple of parks on the California side and came to the conclusion that they look better from a distance! So far we still are not impressed with California.

Wednesday – March 22 – Woke up to sunshine this morning and it was a gorgeous day. This morning Janet, Dave, John and I went up the river a bit and checked out another park, then we crossed over the Parker Dam into California. They have the dam blocked so that only cars can cross over and it was tight driving through the barriers. We drove back down the river to a park across from the one we are in. It was a really nice park and had some really great sites right on the river and it turns out that both that park and the one we are in are owned by the same people.

We came back and dropped off Janet and Dave as they were going golfing on their rain check from yesterday, then John and I drove up to Lake Havasu City. It was a pretty drive and Lake Havasu City is pretty, but we both think it is far more scenic right along the river where we are camped as we are surrounded by mountains which are absolutely stunning. We drove around the city, drove over London Bridge and checked out the island, had lunch, did a bit of shopping and returned home. We are now down using the internet and getting caught up, then tonight is a steak dinner with Janet and Dave.
Tuesday – March 21 – We woke up to the sound of rain this morning, not used to that! It was pretty cloudy and rainy all morning but cleared up this afternoon. This afternoon Janet and I went into Parker and did some shopping, then on the way back we checked out some of the places along the river. It is beautiful country here, the mountains are so interesting in all their different shapes and colours.

This morning I went and parked outside the club house to try to use the internet and it worked perfectly so it is nice to know that it is easy to use, just a pain to have to go to the club house to use it. I picked up the e-mail, did some banking and updated the blog so got everything done I wanted to do, but I do miss not having the internet at my fingertips any time I want to use it.

Janet and Dave had a golf game scheduled for 7 a.m. and managed to get in 9 holes but then gave up due to the rain. They have a rain check for 3 tomorrow afternoon for the other 9. Tonight was dinner at our place, we had 3 different kinds of fish, salad and veggies with key lime pie for dessert, quite a feast!
Monday – March 20 – Well, we were on the road just after 9:30 and the trailer came out like a breeze, no problem at all. All of John’s worrying was for naught, thank goodness. We headed into California and it was a nice drive up north to I-10 past Salton Sea, what a large lake in the middle of the desert. Apparently it was formed about 100 years ago by an earthquake and is drying up at about 3 to 4 feet a year. After Yuma we went about 30 miles through sand dunes, lots of people boon docking and we saw a few ATV’s running the dunes but apparently on weekends there are 100’s of them out there. It was a very desolate run through that area. Once we were through there we again ran into lots of farmland, miles and miles of crops.

We got to Desert Hot Springs and checked out a couple of RV parks, one was way too expensive and the one that was reasonable was a dump. It looked like it was raining further west and we decided we weren’t really that impressed with California so we and the weather wasn’t that great, or forecasted to be, so we decided to head back to Arizona. We ended up at a park between Parker and Lake Havasu and really surprised Janet and Dave when we pulled into a spot across the road from them. We took our food over to their place and cooked grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner and had a good visit with them.

The park is right on the Colarado River and surrounded by mountains, absolutely gorgeous, so we hope to get some good pictures in the next few days and get some posted in the blog, it has been a long time since we have posted any. We have a tree right outside our door with lots of hummingbirds visiting it. There are also a lot of bees in the tree but they don’t seem to want to sting so that is good.

At this park the only way to get the internet is to go to the club house so I will just have to plan on spending a bit of time there each day getting caught up on e-mail etc. Also, we have no phone service here because of the mountains, will have to get out of the park and on higher ground to use the phone.
Sunday – March 19 – Today was get in travel mode day, I got everything in the trailer put away and ready to roll and John got as much done outside as possible. Now it will only take a short time to get on the road in the morning.

Saturday – March 18 – Today was very windy and cooler, but still pleasant. We played golf this afternoon and I had a great game, 3 pars, so I am very happy. I will probably play like a beginner next time out, but it feels so nice to have a good game. The course was nice and hopefully we will play there again next year.
