Friday – March 24 – Today we again drove to Lake Havasu City, parked the truck and walked across London Bridge. We went down the stairs to the walkway along the lake and there was a tour boat just leaving to take a tour up to Copper Canyon so we decided to take it. It was extremely interesting, we learned that Lake Havasu was created in 1938 when they built the Parker Dam and it took 4 years for the lake to fill. A man by the name of McCullough (as in chain saws as well as other things) saw potential for the area and started to develop. He bought London Bridge in 1968 and had it transported to Lake Havasu and erected for a total cost of approximately $7.5M. The bridge was built on dry land and after it was finished they dredged a channel, thereby creating the present day island.
Copper Canyon is a canyon off the lake a couple of miles south of Lake Havasu City and was a real pretty spot. It was a nice boat ride on a gorgeous day and also very informative. After the boat we wandered through some shops, had some lunch and then got groceries before heading back home.
